DAC Connectivity to MS SQLSERVER – SQLServerDriver : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

Issue:

While connecting from Oracle DAC to MS SQLSERVER 2008, I happened to see the below error.

Failure connecting to “SQL Server DB”!
com/microsoft/sqlserver/jdbc/SQLServerDriver : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

Cause:

The Drivers for SQL Server used are of higher version than what is required

Resolution:

A connecting from Oracle DAC to SQL Server database, Oracle provides the document (https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35287_01/bia.7964/e35270/upgr_odbc.htm#BHCEGDDA) and the section “F.3 Creating ODBC Connections for SQL Server Databases” describes the details. As mentioned in the document, we need to download the sqlserver Drivers from Microsoft website. Download the file “sqljdbc4.jar” instead of “sqljdbc41.jar” and “sqljdbc42.jar” (By default, sqljdbc41.jar and sqljdbc42.jar files are available, search for sqljdbc4.jar). If sqljdbc41.jar or sqljdbc42.jar are used, we may see the captioned issue.
